Two notorious armed robbers who specialized in using motorbike to terrorise residents of Sokoto state have been gunned down by the police.
The suspected criminals were sighted by a patrol team from Sabon Birni Police Division who were on routine patrol about 0745hrs along Sabon Birni – Garki village. They swiftly activated their strategy and pursued the suspected bandits and in the process, at Garki village their motorcycle hit the pavement of the road and fell down.
Instantiously, the criminals were said to have opened fire on the Patrol Team. However, a quick response by the police in conjunction with the vigilantes led to the killing of the two bandits.
Nationalwire gathered that items recovered from them included one Rocket Propelled Gun (RPG) with Breech No. M80 and one G3 Rifle with Breech No. 63660.
However, the corpses of the criminals were said to have been evacuated to the General Hospital Sabon Birni for autopsy as investigation has began.
In another development, the Sokoto state Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Sani Ka’oje has warned Islamic clerics to “shun inciting and seditious preachment” noting that the mosques are neither a campaign nor partying venues, especially amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.
While reiterating that political statements, slogans and gatherings will not be entertained at the praying grounds, vowed to bring the remnants of the bandits to face the wrath of the law. He solicited for a stronger community partnership in Policing the State.
CP Ibrahim Sabi Ka’oje, used the opportunity to congratulate Muslim faithfuls in Sokoto State on the successful observance of the holy month of Ramadan.
He pledged that the Command is prepared to provide adequate security for lives and property before, during and after the celebration, adding that every department has been activated and deployed in the metropolis to secure the State.
However, the police boss also warned criminals to avoid the State completely as the command with its deployment of full Combatant Ready Police Officers, would not hesitate to deal with them.
He admonished members of the public to comply with all safety advisories including wearing of facemask, social distancing and washing of hands aimed at the containment of Covid-19 pandemic.
