The Police in Niger state have confirmed the arrest of a notorious cattle rustler, identified as Haruna Garba, as well as the recovery of one AK47 rifle, with five rounds of live ammunition and 13 empty shells is expelled ammunition.
It stated this in a Press statement made available to newsmen in Minna , the state capital over the weekend by the Spokesman of the Command, DSP Bala Elkana.
The release added that the incident occurred last Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at about 0200hours(2am Nigerian time) after the Command’s Special Anti-Cattle Rustling Team raided a cattle rustlers’ den at Nkuchi, Paiko Local Government of the state.
Elkana, a Deputy Superintendent of Police , stated further that during the operation, which lasted for hours, two of the hoodlums were fatally injured and one of them by name Haruna Garba was arrested.
Accordingly, he said, One AK47 Rifle with 5rounds of live ammunitions and 13 empty shells were recovered from the suspect who is now cooling his heels in the Police cell at the State’s Criminals Investigation and Intelligence Department ( SCIID) of the Command in Minna.
He stated further that the suspect has since confessed to the crime and he is assisting the Police with information about the underworld activities of his other accomplice in crime , some of whom are still at large as of the time of filing this report on Sunday.
The release stated that investigation of the case is still ongoing as the suspect would be arraigned and charged to Court ad soon as the police investigation into the matter was concluded .

The long arm of the law has caught up with s Four- Man gang of Armed robbers -cum Kidnappers in Niger state , following their arrest by the Anti-Robbery Squad of the state Police Command , in conjunction with the Special Tactical Squad of the Inspector General of Police attached to the Command .
The suspects, were identified as Nelson Paul who claimed to be an indigene of Kaduna state, Abubakar Idris , Idris Bello, Idris Saleh and Bungel Saleh, all of Injita village , in Munya Local Government of Niger state.
They were said to have been arrested last Thursday, April 20, 2017 at about 100 hours( 1am Nigeria time) at their criminal hideout following a distress call by some concerned members of the public.
National Wire learnt that the first suspect, Nelson Paul, ‘m’ of Kugama in Kaduna state, who doubles as the gang leader is said to be a notorious Gun runner and was arrested in the process of selling one AK47 rifle to his other accomplice in crime, Idris Bello, Abdulkadir Bello and Idris Salah when they were allegedly caught napping by the police.
An insider Police source told our correspondent over the weekend in Minna, that the following firearms were recovered from the gang: one locally made SMG Gun with six rounds of live Ammunition, two Revolver locally made Gun with four live Cartridges, three locally made Single Barrel Gun and one Dane Gun.
The source who craved for anonymity said “the investigation has so far revealed that Nelson Paul and his three accomplice in crime now in police cells are notorious armed robbers and kidnappers terrorizing Niger, Kaduna and Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory .
Meanwhile, the Image Maker, Niger State Command of the Nigeria Police Force DSP Bala Elkana has also confirmed the arrest in a brief chat with our correspondent over the weekend in Minna, saying that the “suspects confessed to have kidnapped a four year old school pupil, collected the sum of N10 million, as ransom from the victim’s family(names withheld)while the case is still under investigation”.
