The Lagos state Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi on September 20, 2017, discovered six shrines used for ritual purposes in Agbowa Ikorodu area of the state.
According to police report, based on intelligence information received from eminent persons of the area, the CP and his team immediately swung into action leading to the arrest of one Adedeji James the owner of a shrine in Otta Ikosi where two victims, a couple about to be killed for ritual purposes were rescued.
The police said the demolition of the shrines was carried out and witnessed by the CP, Taskforce! RRS; DSS; Lagos state Neighborhood & safety Corps and vigilante groups.
The shrines destroyed include Alaka shrine located at Igbein Otta Ikosi; Ajebo shrine along Itoikin Road near Orugbo Iddo; Ashebe shrine inside Orugbo Road, Orugbo. Others are situated at Agbele village, Otta Ikosi, Agbowa.
The team also recovered two caskets, charms and fetish materials used for ritual purposes.
Imohimi urged residents of the area to be vigilant at all times and always report any suspicious movement or actions to the police.
He vowed that individuals who engage in ritual activities would be caught and made to face the law, adding that investigation is ongoing to arrest other suspects on the run.
