Police Confirms The Killing Of One Person, Abduction Of Three others, In Niger Community

The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the killing of one person and abduction of some three other persons by yet unknown gunmen, in Kusherki community, in Rafi Local Government Area of the state.

The Image Maker of the State Police Command, Muhammad Abubakar, a Deputy Superintendent of Police( DSP) stated this in a brief interview with our reporter on Sunday in Minna, the state capital, adding that the unfortunate incident occurred at about 1: am on Sunday.

He, however, disclosed that the Police Operatives of the Special Anti- Robbery Squad, attached to the Command were already on the trail of the fleeing hoodlums, while concerted efforts were being made by the authorities of the Command to rescue the kidnapped victim unhurt.

Also the Traditional title holder of the embattled community, otherwise known as Zarnan Kusherki,  Alhaji Garba Kusherki, informed our reporter in a seperate interview on Sunday in Minna that the fleeing gunmen, numbering well over 20 men attacked the residents of the community in a Commando- like  manner on Motorcycles and went from one house to the other, attempting to forcefully extort money and other valuable items from the members of the community while they were still fast asleep in their individual homes at the time of the attack during the wee hours of the night on the fateful night

Accordingly, he said,  “what happened is that the heavily armed bandits- cum kidnappers stormed the community at about 1:am on the fateful morning when we were still fast asleep. And when they came, they forcefully opened doors to the house of their first victim, one Alhaji Abubakar Kaura. They also requested for money from him, but he told them that he had no money, so they cocked their gun and shot him at a very close range, while one of the hoodlums hit him with the butt of the gun on the head and he died instantly, after which they kidnapped his daughter identified as Shamsiya, as they moved to the next house”.

Kusherki stated further that the armed men tried to force the entrance door of the second house opened, but when they were unsuccessful, they resorted to shooting their guns at the door and they succeeded in gaining entrance into the victim’s house

“And when they entered the house, one of them hit the head of the house, Alhaji  Jafaru Jibrin Kusherki  A  with the gun butt on the head, they later kidnapped him and equally kidnapped one of my cousins, Abdurashidi Mohammed.

“The gunmen operated for about one hour in my community after which they left the community at about 2: am for an  unknown place, ” said the traditional title holder

He said the suspected kidnappers have called to demand for a ransome of N20million, adding that the fleeing hoodlums however threatened to kill the three people they kidnapped if the community failed to raise the said sum of N20million within a very limited period.

Alhaji  Garba Kusherki noted that there were security agents stationed in the area before the incident, adding that the security operatives were stationed at the Government Secondary School Kusherki as at the time of the incident.

He however stated that  the security agents were unable to arrest the situation on the fateful morning when the fully armed bandits came to the community to unleash terror on the residents because it was raining heavily, while nobody was able to raise the alarm and call the security agents to come to their rescue, not until the  armed men had left the community shortly after the unfortunate incident.

The traditional title holder thereby blamed the incident on the insecurity situations in  the neighbouring states of Zamfara and Kaduna, which according to him shared shares borders with Kusherki, while Kaduna state is also close to Birnin Gwari, where he noted, there have been incessant illegal banditry activities in the recent times.

He thereby sent a passionate  appeal to Niger State government to urgently come to their aid, adding that the people of Kusherki are presentlt living in fears of what could happen in the coming days , especially if he and his people were unable to raise the ransome of N20 million demanded for the release of the kidnapped victims consisting of one Woman and two Men.
