Police Arrest Female Evangelist For Human Trafficking In Imo State

…accomplices nabbed inside church, victim rescued

A 47-year-old woman Evangelist, Ugochi Orisakwe has confessed how she has been using her church – JESUS LIFE ASSEMBLY – located at School Garden, Uratta in Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State, as a place where young girls are kept, impregnated and after delivery, the girls are paid off and their babies sold to rich and childless clients.

The cat was let out of the bag sequel to a credible information received on Wednesday, 8th September, 2021, about 0830 hours by the Imo State Police Command’s Tactical Unit that one Amarachi Okechukwu Dioku, 18 years old female, of Umudurualaoka Uba Ifakala Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State was sighted inside the church about four months after she was declared missing by her parents.

Investigation revealed that Amarachi was earlier reported missing on the 23rd May, 2021, by her parents.

She was sighted in the premises of a church located in an isolated area along MCC/Uratta Road in Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State.

The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Rabiu Hussaini, based of the information, immediately dispatched the Command’s Anti-kidnapping unit, who mobilised, stormed and condoned the church, “JESUS LIFE ASSEMBLY ” where the prime suspect and a resident Evangelist of the church, Evangelist Ugochi Orisakwe along side his gang members were arrested.

Others arrested and taken to the police station included Chidi Orisakwe, 34 years old male; Pauline Nwagbunwanne, 42 years old female; Elizabeth Uzoma, 61 years old female and Chibueze Joy 31 years old female.

In the process, the victim, Miss Amarachi Okechukwu Dioku was rescued unhurt but with five months old pregnancy and was immediately taken to a government hospital for treatment. She was later reunited with her parents amidst jubilation.

Meanwhile, investigation is on going and efforts are on to arrest other members of the syndicate who are on the run.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Hussaini, commended the brilliant and gallant efforts of the Tactical teams and called on Imolites to be wary of churches located in isolated areas within their localities.

However, he has warned all persons or groups, who indulge in kidnapping/trafficking in children to leave the state as the Command has put in a robust strategy that would lead to their arrest forthwith.
