The Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, has extended heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Niger State following the devastating flood disaster that struck Mokwo community, resulting in loss of lives, destruction of homes, and displacement of numerous residents.
Senator Gaidam described the incident as “deeply saddening” and acknowledged the pain and trauma being experienced by the affected families and communities. He commended the efforts of local authorities, first responders, and volunteers who have swiftly moved to mitigate the impact of the flood and provide immediate relief.
The Minister assured the displaced citizens that the Federal Government, through the Nigeria Police Force, is taking all necessary steps to secure affected areas and ensure the safety of those who have been forced to resettle in neighboring communities. He stated that mobile police units will be reinforced in temporary camps and host communities to prevent criminal exploitation of vulnerable individuals.
Senator Gaidam emphasized that the protection of lives and property remains a top priority of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. He called on community leaders and local vigilantes to cooperate with security agencies in maintaining peace and safeguarding humanitarian operations in the affected areas.
The Minister concluded by urging the public and private sectors, as well as international aid organizations, to complement government efforts by providing relief materials, healthcare, and resettlement assistance to the victims of the flood disaster.
