The Nigerian Navy Forward Operations Base (FOB) operating in Bonny in Rivers State has confiscated and destroyed 17,500 litres of stolen crude oil discovered in a 4 x dug-out pits in the Niger Delta region.
Disclosing this in a statement in Abuja on Friday, 13th March, 2026, the Director of Information (DINFO), Captain Abiodun Abidemi Folorunsho said that the recovered products were subsequently destroyed in accordance with extant operational guidelines.
While explaining that the operation was part of ongoing efforts to combat crude oil theft and illegal bunkering under Operation DELTA SENTINEL, added that the illegal crude oil storage site was destroyed within the Forward Operating Base (FOB) BONNY Area of Operations in Rivers State.
He reiterated that the operation is rooted in the directive from the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, hence there is the intensification of efforts by the force under Operation DELTA SENTINEL.
Captain Folorunsho further disclosed that the unit, leveraged on the Nigerian Navy’s Maritime Surveillance technology, and uncovered concealed dugout pits hidden beneath thick vegetation within creeks in the Opotumbi general area.
“This move demonstrates the Nigerian Navy’s renewed momentum in combating crude oil theft and maritime crimes, emphasizing continuous patrols, enhanced surveillance, and inter-agency collaboration to protect critical national assets and Nigeria’s economic interests in Nigeria’s maritime environment, Captain Folorunsho reiterated.
