Ondo Gov Akeredolu Is Dead

In a tragic development, Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has passed away at the age of 67. The Governor, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and former president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), succumbed to prostate cancer and leukemia during treatment at a German hospital. Akeredolu, who secured his re-election in October 2020, was sworn in for a second term in February 2021.

The late governor faced health challenges throughout his second term, marked by a prolonged medical leave starting in June. Despite returning to Nigeria in September and formally transferring power to Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa in December, Akeredolu’s health struggles persisted. His attempt to govern from Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, sparked public outrage.

Ondo State mourns the loss of a dedicated leader as Aiyedatiwa takes on the responsibilities of the governor in an acting capacity. The late Governor Akeredolu leaves behind a legacy of public service and legal expertise.
