The newly elected President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, (NURTW) Alhaji Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa (aka Professor) has reiterated his commitment to run the new administration of the NURTW with the policy thrust based on ‘Fiscal Prudence ‘.
He made the promise on the occasion of the inauguration of the new National Administrative Council( NAC) of the union, held last Thursday, August 29, 2019 at the Nigeria Air force Conference Centre in Abuja.
Alhaji Baruwa who is the 8th president of the union expressed appreciation and gratitude to God Almighty and everyone presence at the Conference saying, ” i will not take for granted, God’s grace in giving me the privilege and opportunity to serve this distinguished and great union as the 8th president.
Accordingly, he said, “i am thankful to God for the divine mandate and wish to assure that the mandate and the power thereto shall be used to do good to the teeming members of the union across the country particularly, and of the Nigerian public generally”.
The new NURTW’s Boss stated further that the policy thrust of the new administration shall be hinged on a Fiscal Prudence”, adding that in order to achieve this goal, he is going to run an all inclusive administration.
“The new administration intend to carry out comprehensive restructuring and reorganization of all departments and organs of the union for optimum performance in addition to ensuring that we put the square pegs in square holes”, he stated .
Alhaji Baruwa also assured that his administration will not tolerate redundancy, while maintaining zero tolerance for corruption or sharp practices.
Baruwa who also promised to make the welfare of his members a priority said, ” however the welfare of elected officers, career officers and all staff, including members shall be in our priority list while every loop holes, leakages and conduit pipes shall be closed.
He also promised to review all MOUs, new appointments, contract agreement entered into after the 15th of May ,2019 with the view to make sure the terms and conditions of these agreements were in conformity with the Constitution and condition of service of the union.
He also assured his members that all the six Zonal Councils and 36 state councils including the FCT Abuja will
be conducted in accordance with the provision of the constitution of the union, as enshrined in Article 14, section 5 subsection (1) and Article 16, section(1).
The NURTW President, also expressed appreciated to his predecessor, Alhaji Najeem Usman (aka Makama Gusau) for taking the union to global limelight and putting in place solid structures that will stand the test of time across the country.
He promised to sustain the legacies put in place by the outgoing administration but vowed to ensure that the union under his watch, surpassed the record as so far set.
He thereby commended the General Secretary, Chief Clement S. Wetkur, for his sense of humility and undivided loyalty, while thanking the outgone president, NAC members and special NEC members for their individual and collective contributions to the union, while assuring them that the new administration will carry every one along in the activities of the union.
He however, sought the support and cooperation of the union and promised to take the union to the next level of growth an development.
