Business transaction on Friday August 18, 2017 closed the week on a positive note, as the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) key market indicators increased by 1.66 percent, bringing the year to date return stood at 37.38 percent. With this development, it means the market only experienced positive move in two days and negative trends in three days during the week under review
The All Share Index closed at 36,920.56 against the previous close of 36,316.58 while Market Capitalization closed at N12.726 trillion against previous close of N12.517 trillion. Volume traded increased by 5.10 percent from 225.141 million to 236.619 million.
While the total value of stock traded decreased by 12.25 percent from N5.479 billion to N4.808 billion in 3,803 deals, The Financial Services sector led the activity chart with 201.123 million shares exchanged for N3.362 billion.
Consumer Goods came next with 16.485 million shares traded for N0.694 billion, Conglomerates, Industrial Goods, Services sectors followed in that order on the activity chart. Zenith Bank Plc, United Bank for Africa Plc, Guaranty Trust Bank Plc, Fidelity Bank Plc and FBN Holding Plc were the most active stocks by volume.
Zenith Bank Plc, Guaranty Trust Bank Plc, FCMB Holding Plc, National Salt Company of N Nigeria Plc and Stanbic IBTC emerged the highest price gainers. while Custodian & Allied Insurance Plc, Okomu Oil Plc, Cadbury Nigeria Plc, UAC-Prop Plc and Cement Company of Northern Nigeria Plc topped the losers table. In all a total of 99 companies shares were traded with 26 gainers and 12 losers, while 61 stock prices were unchanged.
