Nigerian Police Dismiss 10 Officers, Punish 146 Others

The Nigerian Police Force has dismissed ten of its officers and reprimanded 146 others for various misconducts, the Police Complaint Rapid Response Unit (PCRRU) has published.

The PCRRU is an arm of the Nigerian Police responsible for complaints from the public. Marking its second anniversary recently, the unit released information relating to its several feats with robust data.

According to the unit, a total number of 7,216 complaints were registered out of which 5,927 were resolved. Meanwhile there were also 560 false complaints and 729 cases are still pending.

A total of ten officers were dismissed after investigations, an officer was reprimanded and 64 others were awarded various punishments while 81 officers were sanctioned.  An Assistant Commissioner of Police (ASP) was the highest ranking officer sanctioned within the period. Four officers were reduced in ranks and two were suspended over several misconducts.

The unit also revealed that within the period of its creation, a total of 1,820 cases of requesting money for bail were recorded even as bail is said to be free across Nigeria.

The Nigerian Police has proved that it is truly the friend of the people and that it would not condone any misconduct and unprofessional practice within the rank and file of the force.

Also recently, Nigerian youths cried out in protest against unprofessional conducts of some officers attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigerian Police. The protest which went viral on social media however got to the highest Police authority and was appropriately addressed, meaning that the Nigerian Police is a listening force which is close to the people.
