Niger State Government on Monday in Minna, said that all schools in the state shall be reopening on Sunday, 4th October, 2020 for the 2019/2020 academic session, third term.
This was as the state government expressed the determination that all second term examinations conducted under duress were thereby canceled and ordered all teachers to return to their respective schools from Tuesday 29th September to commence preparations for the reopening.
The State Commissioner for Education, Hajiya Hannatu Jibrin Salihu stated this in an interactive session with the newsmen in her office, on the sidelines of a stakeholders meeting on resumption of non-exit classes of the basic and secondary schools.
Speaking during the meeting, the state Commissioner for education stated further that the safe school reopening committee have submitted its final reports, noted that the 19 northern states Commissioners for Education also met in Abuja recently, stressing that the North Central States stakeholders also met in Lafia Nasarawa State for same purpose thereafter .
According to her, various consultations were also made to discuss report of the Committee while they came up with certain resolutions.
Hajiya Hannatu Jibrin Salihu, said, “the re-opening of all basic and post basic classes of public and private institutions for third term of 2019/2020 academic session for 4th October 2020 with exception of public boarding schools where only SS2 student’s shall resume on the same day using platooning model.
She said, “JSS 1 and 2 are to attend morning classes and SS 1and 2 would attend evening classes. Public primary school schools 1-3 would attend morning classes while primary 3-6 would attend evening classes. While private schools are to opening and operate in line with Covid19 Protocols”.
” Also, all Tsangaya, Quaranic Islamiyat and faith based schools would open and operate in line with Covid19 Protocols,” the Commissioner remarks .
She added that the first term for 2020/2021 academic session will commence from Sunday 3rd January 2021 and urged stakeholders to be up and doing as the the task ahead is demanding.
Chairman National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Niger State chapter, Mr. Femi Isaac Alalade, in a brief interview with journalists commended the state government for its efforts at reopening of schools.
He said, “online programme conducted during the lock down was not effective because the pupils are not used to it”.
Alalade however stated that there will not be waivers or reduction on school fees for parents and guardians for their children and wards since they were going to complete the 3rd term.
