The Niger Delta Young Professionals, NDYP has doled out N1 milioon cash to three young entrepreneurs to upscale their businesses.
The gesture was also extended to six other young entrepreneurs who got,N500, 000.00 each to grow their business.
Speaking during the 5th Niger Delta Micro Small and Medium Enterprise Summit in Yenagoa, the Chairman of Siloko Group and Converner of the MSMEs Summit, Moses Siloko Siasia stated that his organization has empowered over 650 young businesses across the Niger Delta region, creating close to 20,000 jobs and steering young people away from social vices.
He expressed gratitude to the government, particularly the Bayelsa State Governor, for supporting the initiative.
Siasia encouraged young entrepreneurs to be change-makers and responsible citizens and announced that grants ranging from N100,000 to N300,000 would be awarded to deserving businesses, with a focus on Bayelsans.
“We are building men and women in the region who will stand the test of time,” Siasia said.
“The future and destiny of this region lies in our hands as young people. We must work constructively to bring about the change we need.
“So today we are going to give grants to some businesses not because we just want to spread money.
“We identify your business, we are looking at the prospect, all the indices of your business aspirations we look at it.
“And we are giving some grants today and I will also want to throw some grants to Bayelssns so I have told my team to look out to those who have businesses. Some N300,000, some will get N200,000 and some N100,000 so this is what we want to support their businesses,” Siasia added.
According to him, the summit aimed to provide knowledge, support, and networking opportunities for young business owners, with experienced professionals sharing their expertise.
He urged attendees to take advantage of government interventions, such as NIRSAL loans and CBN support for SMEs, to build their brands and businesses.
A guest speaker, Dr. George Omuraro speaking on the theme of the summit” Enhancing The Tole of MSMEs As Drivers of Sustainable Growth and Innovation” urged participants to find problems, identify opportunities and turn those opportunities to business and challenge them not to make excuses as it kills extinct to venture into start up.
Omuraro emphasized on reputation and trust in business, say that young business owners should try to build trust and reputation as they are currencies that can open doors.
Also, speaking Dr. Chimobi Anyaso said for the Niger Delta region to rewrite her story it must move from an oil economy to an enterprise economy where the pipelines are not just carrying crude oil but are carrying ideas to the market, product and values to the world.
