Bayelsa State own premier higher institution of learning, Niger Delta University (NDU) has commenced the operation of its own radio station.
Professor Gowon Edoumiekumor, who revealed this to newsmen recently in the university during their 17th matriculation ceremony said in a bid to making the first State own university globally competitive in learning and character moulding the university under his stewardship acquired equipments and started the broadcast of a radio station with the frequency 98.1.
Edoumiekumor stressed that though the station has not commenced commercial broadcasting, emphasizing that in no distant time the university would acquire a commercial broadcast license. He noted that plans are at top gear for the Niger Delta University to also start-up a television station.
According to the university Don, following the successful operationalizing of the radio station and with the television station coming on stream soon a new department called theatre and media arts has been established in the university.
The vice chancellor while reiterating his commitment towards eradicating cultism and criminality in the school warned old and fresh students to desist from such acts, as those caught would face the wrath of the law and expelled from the university just as he also advised them to take their academics seriously.
