The Chairman of the Nigeria Exchange Group (NGX), Alhaji (Dr) Umaru Kwairanga, has praised Aliko Dangote’s vision and entrepreneurial spirit during a familiarisation tour of the Dangote Refinery and Petrochemical Complex.
The tour, which brought together representatives from several African stock exchanges, was part of the preparations for the initial public offering (IPO) listing of Dangote Industries Limited on the NGX.
In his welcome remarks, Kwairanga described Dangote as a “true visionary with a mission to move the African continent from consumption to production, especially through industrialisation”.
”He has the rare ability to conceive grand designs and bring those designs to reality through meticulous planning and exceptional execution,” Kwairanga said.
The NGX Chairman noted that Dangote’s impact on the continent has been transformative, with his companies playing a significant role in various sectors, including food, cement, fertiliser, and petroleum products.
The Dangote Refinery and Petrochemical Complex, which was the focus of the tour, is the largest single-train refinery in the world, and its completion is expected to significantly reduce Nigeria’s reliance on imported petroleum products.
Kwairanga expressed gratitude to Dangote Industries Limited for granting the African capital market community an opportunity to see the refinery and understand the company’s vision and mission.
He also appreciated the representatives from various African stock exchanges for participating in the tour, which he said would help them evaluate and offer their services as capital market operators and financial advisers for the success of the IPO listing on the NGX.
The tour was attended by representatives from the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, the Nairobi Stock Exchange, the Ghana Stock Exchange, the BVRM – Cote D’Ivoire; Mali; Senegal; the Ethiopian Stock Exchange, and the Rwanda Stock Exchange, among others.
The IPO listing of Dangote Industries Limited is expected to be a significant milestone in the Nigerian capital market, and the NGX is working closely with the company to ensure its success.
As Africa’s foremost exchange, the NGX is committed to promoting economic growth and development through the mobilisation of capital and the provision of a platform for companies to raise funds.
The familiarisation tour of the Dangote Refinery and Petrochemical Complex is a testament to the NGX’s commitment to fostering collaboration and promoting investment opportunities in Africa.
