Members of a non-governmental organization, Polling unit Ambassadors of Nigeria (PUAN), Bayelsa state chapter have again expressed their dissatisfaction over the postponement of the inauguration of the state chapter’s executive officers earlier slated for today, Tuesday 31st, May, 2022 in Yenagoa, the state capital.
Our correspondent reports that PUAN which would most likely play a major role when Inaugurated in the forthcoming, 2023 general elections was borne out of the desire to educate Nigerians in the areas of credible, free and fair elections and voters education as well as sensitisation and creating awareness on electoral matters for the Nigerian electorates.
National Wire gathered that PUAN which literally commenced its activities through registration and mobilization of members in the state since 2020 has at different instances postponed the inauguration ceremonies of its Bayelsa state executive officers.
Speaking with Journalists in Yenagoa, some visibly angry members of the group who preferred the status of anonymity noted that the NGO might have just been one which intentions was to deceive its members in the state.
The anonymous members hinted that while many states excos especially, in the Northern, Eastern and Western parts of the country have been inaugurated and since started functioning effectively, the Bayelsa chapter’s inauguration has become a matter of constant postponement due to personal interest of a few members who were willing to undo the rest of the members of the group based on their parochial gains.
It would be recalled that the polling unit ambassadors of Nigeria (PUAN) last weekend announced the date for the long awaited inauguration ceremonies of its Bayelsa state executive which was later postponed few minutes to the scheduled time for the event on Tuesday in Yenagoa, the state capital.
Meanwhile, efforts at speaking with the state convener of the NGO, Mr Appah proved abortive, just as the chairman of the central planning committee for the postponed inauguration, Mr Godwin Ongbo Emmanuel through a phone interview had informed Journalists who were supposed to cover the inauguration that the postponement were basically due to air flights related, saying that the aeroplane which were expected to convey the national officers of the group from Abuja to Bayelsa state for the inauguration activities were missed by the office as scheduled.
National Wire reports that further efforts put by our sources to speak with some of the early arrivals invited to the botch inauguration, including the Director, voters education of the Bayelsa state office of the Independent national electoral commission (INEC), Mr Wilfred yielded no positive results before press time.
