NECO Releases June/July SSCE Results

The National Examinations Council (NECO) yesterday at it’s Corporate Headquarters in Minna, Niger State, announced the release of June/July 2017  Senior School Certificate Examinations (SSCE) results, with Ekiti State coming First just like it did last year, with  85 percent and  Five Credits in Five  Subjects and above which including  English Language and Mathematics.

Also coming second in the exams was Edo State  with 84.61 percent of Five Credits and above including English Language and Mathematics,  while Bayelsa State came Third,  with 84.52 percent and Five Credits in Fve Subjects and above which included English Language and above.

According to the Registrar/ Chief Executive of the Examination body, Professor Bromiyo Uchenna Uwakwe, while announcing the release ofbthe results ar the Conference Hall of NECO, in Minna yesterday said  unlike like last year when 1,027,047 candidates registered for  June/ July 2016, SSCE , while 1,022,474 sat for the examinations, as a total 905,011 candidates which translated into 88.51percent passed the exams in a total of Five Credits and above which included English Language and Mathematics.

He stated further that there  was an improvement in this year’s June/ July 2017  SSCE results by candidates who sat for the examinations, saying, ” a total of 1, 055, 988 registered for the examinations , while 1, 051, 472 candidates sat for the examinations , as a total of 947,850 which translated to 90. 14 percent candidates passed the examinations with Credits in Five Subjects and above, including  English Language and Mathematics”.

Accordingly, he said, “Gentlemen of the press, distinguished Ladies and gentlemen, I feel highly delighted to announce the results of the 2017 June/ July, SSCE. 1,055, 988 candidates registered for the examinations, 1,051, 472 candidates sat for the examinations, 76 subjects were examined, 745,053(70.85%) candidates have 5  credits and above including  English Language and Mathematics.

This represents 1.11%) improvement in candidates’ performance, compared with 2016 results”.

Speaking further, he said, “947,850(90.14%)candidates have 5 credits and above irrespective of English Language and Mathematics, stressing that this represents 1.63percent improvement compared with 2016 results”.

The NECO Registrar / Chief Executive, however disclosed that 50, 586( 4.81%) candidates were involved in various forms of examination malpractices, adding that this represents 0.52percent increase in cases of malpractice compared with last year.

He noted that 276 schools were involved in mass cheating in no less than 34 states, while six schools were derecognized for examination malpractice, stating that Superiors who aided malpractice in one way or the other were blacklisted.

Meanwhile, Prof. Uwakwe said that Zamfara state, which registered 26,070 candidates for the examinations, as 26,020 candidates sat for the examinations, while 12,607 candidates which represented 48.45percent passed the exams with Five Credits and above in Five subjects and above including English Language and Mathematics.

The state, however came last again this year just like it did  last year.
