NDDC Promises To Complete Senatorial Road, Construction Of Bridges In Bayelsa, Delta States

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has said it would partner the Bayelsa State Government on the completion of the state’s Western Senatorial District road to its planned terminal end.

The Commission also stated that it was ready to collaborate with the state and neighbouring Delta State on the construction of an inter-state link bridge in the Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa state.

Managing-Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Commission, Dr Samuel Ogbuku stated this at the weekend in his remarks at a civic reception held in honour of the Minister of Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, the Bayelsa State Representative on the board of the NDDC, Senator Dimaro Denyanbofa and others held at Ekeremor town, headquarters of the Ekeremor Council area of the state.

He called on the Bayelsa and Delta states Governments to work out the modalities for the construction of a link bridge between the two states in the Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa and communicate the Commission.

Ogbuku noted that the completion of the State’s Western senatorial road and the construction a bridge to link Ekeremor Local Government with Delta state became imperative following the extent of work the Bayelsa state Government has done on the road.

The NDDC boss promised the Commission’s commitment in partnering Governments of the region on infrastructural projects, saying the commission would complete the senatorial road so as to connect the remaining communities of the area by road.

He said: “Before this road got to Ekeremor, we’ll remember that to get to this LGA headquarters, you must come through neighbouring communities from Delta state. So now that there’s a road to Ekeremor town, the NDDC is ready to partner the Bayelsa and Delta States Governments to construct a bridge to link the neighbouring communities of both states separated by rivers”.

Meanwhile, the Bayelsa state Governor, Senator Douye Diri has said time for politics was over, noting that part of an earlier discussion he had with President Bola Tinubu was for the latter to inaugurate the Western senatorial road.

He commended the NDDC for its effort in fast tracking development of the Niger Delta region, calling on the Commission to initiate the processes of reaching his Delta state counterpart on the proposed Bayelsa-Delta link bridge in the Ekeremor Local Government Area of the state.

Governor Diri also lauded the Ekeremor people for celebrating their illustrious Sons.

He said: “Before PDP and APC, there were other parties. We may belong to other parties, but that doesn’t stop us from being Bayelsans. And that doesn’t stop us from being brothers and sisters”.
