NAICOM’s Complaint Management Portal: A Futile Attempt At Addressing Insurance Woes

The National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) has launched a complaint management portal, in a supposed effort to address the myriad of insurance-related complaints that have been plaguing the industry.

However, some shareholders in the domestic market has described this move as nothing more than a superficial attempt to appease the public and deflect attention from the Commission’s ineptitude in effectively regulating the insurance sector.

The portal, which is touted as a “streamlined and user-friendly platform,” according to them, the commission move is merely a digital dumping ground for complaints, with no guarantee of prompt or effective resolution.

Speaking to National wire on Wednesday in Lagos, the duo of Mr. Immasuen Eromosele and Messer Vincent Udok further alleged that the Commission’s track record of addressing complaints has been abysmal, and this portal is unlikely to change that.

They claimed furthermore that, the Commission’s decision to launch this portal without any significant reforms to the insurance sector is a clear indication of their lack of commitment to meaningful change.

Mr. Eromosele said, “It is merely a cosmetic attempt to create the illusion of progress while maintaining the status quo.

“The public should not be fooled by this half-hearted attempt at addressing their grievances.

“Instead, they should demand more substantive action from NAICOM to address the systemic issues plaguing the insurance industry.

“The launch of this portal is a mere smokescreen, and the Commission’s inaction will only continue to perpetuate the suffering of policyholders and stakeholders alike”, he added.
