The Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, has urged the 462 newly commissioned cadets to be dedicated, effective, and professional in their duties.
He made the statement on the sidelines of the passing out parade ceremony of the 6th Regular Course 6 2018 Cadets (462), reviewed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, ably represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, at the Academy Parade Ground, Police College, Wudil, Kano State.
Gaidam emphasized that after completing their rigorous training, Nigerians expect them to add value to the police ecosystem and discharge their duties fairly and accountably.
He encouraged them to reflect on their journey and be prepared for the challenges ahead, stressing that their character and integrity will define their careers.
The Minister highlighted the importance of community engagement and trust building, urging the cadets to be actively involved in the communities they serve.
He also emphasized the need for coordination between federal, state, and local law enforcement to create a unified front against crime.
He urged them to reflect on the journey that has brought them to this point adding that the training received has prepared them for the challenges ahead. Gaidam stressed that it is their character and integrity that will define their careers.
In his words, “It is indeed a privilege to serve Nigeria and work towards the noble goal of ensuring the safety and security of our citizens. Undoubtedly, there is still much work to be done. You should be fully aware of the challenges that lie ahead, and acknowledge the complexities associated with policing. However, you should be resolute in your commitment to bring about lasting change”. The Minister stressed.
According to him, “Community engagement and trust building should be your focus. You must be actively involved in the communities you serve, fostering a sense of cooperation and partnership. By enhancing coordination between Federal, State, and local law enforcement, we can create a unified front against crime and ensure a more effective response”.
Gaidam pointed out that currently, the Ministry of Police Affairs is spearheading policy reforms and administrative initiatives aimed at bolstering the operational efficiency of the NPF and improving welfare and morale. The ongoing initiatives include engaging multiple stakeholders through town hall meetings and reinforcing the Police Community Relations Committee to bolster efforts in enhancing community safety. He added.
Gaidam commended the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, and his team for their dedication to shaping future police leaders.
He charged them to continue building community partnerships and positioning the Nigeria police to play a critical role in achieving the “Renewed Hope Agenda” of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
