Ahead of Federal and Lagos State Governments’ directives of “Stay at home” in the State, Mile 12 traders as a means of solving the problems that may arise from people accessing perishable goods have partnered with the Lagos State Government to introduce market shift centres.
This was made known during a chat with nationalwire.com.ng by the Chairman, Mile 12 International Market, Sheu Usman in his office on Wednesday.
“As a result of High demand and combination of festivals Salah and Christmas together, no much more than that. Everybody come, they want to buy foods items. Nobody increase anything, it is the demand. The demand is too high. Demand is more than supply”.
Usman said the traders equally have their own method which will start by tomorrow. Their people will go out with the van, calling people out to come and buy goods.
“We equally have our own method which will start by tomorrow. Our people will go out with the van calling people out to come and buy goods. There won’t be any crowd, they have given us some centres where we can take the food stuffs to some people very close in each local government”.
The Chairman further said that the traders obey the both government orders. He said the market is empty. That they are the ones that can tell the true state of the market.
“If there is anybody that will talk about compliance is us at the market. As you can see now the market is empty. You can see now the market is empty, you can see now if anybody tell you that there is market here you will not believe”.
On the issue of perishable goods, Usman said there is nothing they can do. He said the good has arrived and that if staying off the market is a sacrifice they can make so be it. “There is nothing we can do. It has arrived, it has arrived. These are perishable goods that if we leave them in the farm will still good bad. There is nothing we can do. If this is our sacrifice so be it”.
The Chairman said they are lay people, poor people and neglected. ” We are lay people, we are poor people. Nobody consider us. That if they locked up this place, no one to say let us give them some grants”.
