…as EFCC Partner Berekete Radio on Anti-corruption fight

What turns out to be one of the highest ghost workers in any state civil service has been uncovered by the Ilorin Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The discovery of the over 1000 ghost workers came from the payroll of Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (KWSUBEB) and a cash recovery of over N138, 000, 000 from the state’s treasury looters.
According to the Head, Ilorin Zonal Office of the EFCC, Mallam Isyaku Sharu announced the busting of the ghost workers in Ilorin, on Thursday, while speaking on the zone’s achievement during the lockdown.
He commended the zone for living up to its responsibilities despite the social restriction and global health challenge posed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“You will recall that the zone had earlier handed over N374, 000, 000 to the state Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazak on two occasions. The zone has also uncovered alleged diversion of about N750, 000, 000 from the Light Up Kwara Project in which about N72, 000, 000 was used in purchasing a property in Guzape area of Abuja,” Sharu reiterated.
He further reiterating its achievements within 16 months of its operation in the state, said these includes interim forfeiture of eight residential buildings in the state capital, two residential buildings in Ikoyi, Lagos state, all worth several millions of naira and final forfeiture of several vehicles, adding that they secured 52 convictions.
Meanwhile, the EFCC has entered into Partnership with Berekete Radio with a view to
strengthening its anti-corruption fight.
The Acting Chairman of the Commission, Ibrahim Magu who was on live programme on the radio on Thursday, organised by the Berekete Family Radio to commomorate Nigeria’s Democracy Day, said the
fight against corruption was a collective responsibility of every citizen.
Represented by the Kaduna Zonal Head of the EFCC, Mailafia Yakubu emphasised that family orientation was vital in children’s upbringing and advised parents to monitor the live style of their children, noting that the Commission will continue to pursue its preventive mandate towards educating, enlightening and sensitising the public on the activities of the EFCC and the ills of corruption.
