Man to spend one month in jail for stealing slippers

Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Monday, sentenced a 20-year-old applicant, Sabiu Abdulkadir, to one-month imprisonment for stealing 15 pairs of slippers valued at N13,500.

Abdulkadir of Idu village, Abuja, was arraigned on a count of theft, an offence he admitted committing.

The judge, Abubakar Sadiq, however, gave the convict an option to pay N4, 000 fine and warned him against taking to crimes in future.

The prosecuting counsel, Mrs Auhioboh Florence, had told the court that one Emmanuel Okafor of Idu Customary Court, Karmo, reported the matter at Karmo Police Station on May 3.

She told the court that the convict entered the complainant’s shop and stole the 15 pairs of slippers.

The prosecutor said that during police investigation, the convict admitted committing the offence, which contravened Section 288 of the Penal Code.

Section 288 stipulates five years imprisonment for stealing, with an option of fine or both.
