Lions Club Donates To FRSC At Awards Recognition Dinner in Lagos

Lions Club members of Zone 6A has concluded an award and recognition ceremony in Lagos during which they donated a yellow branded kiosk to the (FRSC), Ojodu Berger Lagos, to improve the commission’s services to the citizens.

The well attended dinner organised as a get-together drew members from other zones to the Marble Brand Hotel, Ikeja Lagos.

Also in affirmation for their commitment to the club the invocations of the Club-The Lions Prayer, The Lions International Purpose and The Lions Code of Ethics were also said after the Nigerian national anthem and the national pledge.

At the Event were the Chief Host, District Governor 404B2 Nigeria, Lion Asiwaju Ayoola Samuel and the Convener, Zone 6A Chairperson, Lion Blessing Modupe Umebali Region chairperson, Lion Gertrude Akhimen and the Zone Secretary and President of the Dynamic Lions Club, Lion Tolulope Senbanjo were also in attendance couple with many Lions.

Guest of Honour at the event was politician and Pharmacist, Mr. Joseph Jimi Agbaje who doubled as the Guest Speaker at the event. A former District Governor of the District, Lion Dr. Christine Funke Adebajo was the Mother of the day.

The Zone 6A chairperson, Lion Blessing Modupe Umebali, rendered her welcome speech welcoming all and sundries and the reiterated on her Journey so far as the Zone chairperson.

According to her, the journey has not been easy but full of appreciation to God. “Our Journey hasn’t been that rosy but we thank God all our challenges gave us opportunity to succeed in touch the lives of the vulnerable in our community and the poor as well.

“Clubs under zone 6a have carried our key centennial projects, Youth Empowerment Program, Environmental Programs, Diabetic, Pediatric & Cancer Program, and Relieving the Hunger etc. These projects and Activities have been reported through MyLCI,” She added.

Lion Umebali was overwhelmed by the love she enjoyed from all her supporters and members of her zone as she expressed her gratitude in teary words the golden hearts.
She continued, “On behalf of all Lions in Zone 6a, I say thank you to our District Governor, Lion Asiwaju Ayobola Samuel JP MJF NLCF, for giving me the opportunity to serve in this capacity. My DG sir, you are the driver behind my steadfastness to the responsibilities given to me as a Zone Chair.

“Thanks to our Guest Speaker and Guest of Honor, Mr. Joseph Olujimi Agbaje for honoring us again for the second time. To my own Queen of Service, Lion Dr. Christine Olufunke Adebajo NLCF, our Mother of the Day, thank you ma, for your time, talent and treasure. She didn’t conclude her address without acknowledging also the Region Chairperson, Lion Gertrude Akhimien PMJF NLCF, Lions Adetunji Olusegun Edward NLCF and Alhaji Kayode Oshinuga MJF NLCF.

The mother of the day took to the podium to console Lion Blessing with her goodwill speech as a mother would her child; her speech was consoling and full of commendations for intentional and purposeful act of the female leader.

The District Governor in his Address spoke about the goodwill that drives the Lions Club all over the world from the inception to charge all Lions in attendance.
He said, “Over 100 years, Lions all over the world have served their communities with dedication and contributing to the well-being of millions of people.

“In the course of rendering service, we have been implementation projects that have direct bearing in the lives of the people. Our focus among others has been on empowering the youth relieving hunger, protecting our environment and using sight preservation to combat poverty.”

He also commended the Leadership of the Zone 6A and the supporting members, charging them to do more and urging other zones in the District to follow suit.
In his words, “While congratulating all the Lions of Zone 6A for this initiative and for being ahead of others in hard work and creativity. I must at this juncture singularly commend the Zone chairperson, Lion Blessing Modupe Umebali, NLCF for providing a purposeful leadership and the zeal to mobilize the members to put service delivery above every other thing. I wish to challenge other zones in the District to emulate this commendable step, which is definitely a step in the direction.”

Concluding, he said, “As I conclude, I want to congratulate the award winners of today on the well-deserved recognition but let me quickly add that the reward for hard work is more work as we will expect you to continue to support the Lions at whatever level in our determination to make life better for the under privileged.”

It was now time for the Guest of honor’s speech and the Physician mount the podium to give his speech, which he titled “Community as a catalyst for Nation-Building.”

He averred that Nation Building is not in-born but developed through experiences from everyday activities.
In his words “National identity is not in born. It is socially constructed. It results from what is experienced in our daily lives – National symbols, language, nation’s history, blood ties, culture, music, cuisine, radio, television, and so on.”

“Under various social influences, people incorporate National Identity into their personal identities by adopting beliefs, values, assumptions and expectations which align with one’s national identity.” He added.

Also in his speech, the Pharmacist spelled out the role of communities and highlighted influencers of positive Nation-Building.

He said “The role of communities is to set standards of moral values, set up projects, offer services and commit funds.’’

He continued, “Influencers of positive Nation-building are Security of Lives and Property, Health care and high level of education, Economic growth, High per capital income levels, Low level of poverty, and Gender Equality.”

The Politician, in his closing remark encouraged all members of the club to be political partisans and to go get their permanent voters card to actively participate in the coming elections as he believe full participation of all and sundries would make huge contribution to Nation Building.

The Event was not only colored with every member’s Blue and Yellow regalia but also with the happy mood and spirit of Harmony they all share in service to humanity, which they believe is the ultimate clarion call. It was now time for the presentation of awards.

So full of gratitude, Lion Blessing presented awards to all the guests in attendance. Some members of the club were also recognized while many also were issued Certificate of Appreciation for their services to the club and the nation.

To ensure longevity of the Joyful moments, footages in photos and videos were captured as everyone posed to appear good on them and it ended with music, dancing and delicious delicacies going down the throat. It was indeed a big merry moments for the Lions.
