Nigerian music legend and reggae icon, Majekodunmi Fasheke also known as Majek Fashek is dead.
Majek’s Manager, Omenka Uzoma confirmed the sad news on the late singer’s official Instagram handle on Monday 1st of June.
“Today been having pressure calls, well, it is true that the African No. 1 Legendary ICON has gone to be with the LORD his Maker,” he said.
He added that, “Let celebrate him, his achievements, and his family, whatever decision made by his immediate family will be notified.”
He came into the limelight and got global attention in the late 80s with his ‘Send Down The Rain’ track which he wrote.
Born in Benin City, the legend played a role in the 2000 Nollywood movie titled ‘Mark of the Beast.’
His hit track, Send Down the Rain came from his 1988 hit album ‘Prisoner of Conscience’. The hit track gave him multiple awards and also game him the title ‘Rainmaker’.
The late musician also had worked with various artists worldwide including Tracy Chapman, Jimmy Cliff, Michael Jackson, Snoop Dogg and Beyoncé.
His other works include ‘So long too long’, ‘Holy Spirit’, ‘Prisoner of Conscience’, ‘Majek Fashek in a New York’, ‘Kpangolo’, among many other hits.
