LASTMA Arrest Passenger With Over 100 Used Pampers

…as multiple accident claims life

Attempt by an anonymous passenger to cart away over 100 used diapers loaded in a bag failed as the tricycle he boarded was involved in an accident that led to his arrest.

The accident which took place at Mosalasi Roundabout inward Iyana-Ipaja area of Lagos State on Monday morning led to three persons – two males and a female – severely injured while one later died on his way to the hospital.

It was learnt that one of the passengers inside the commercial tricycle involved in the accident was caught with more than 100 pieces of used small children “Diapers Pampers” with huge sum of money of different denominations. He was promptly arrested at the scene and handed over to the Police.

Adebayo Taofiq explained that the rescue operations led by Lastma Akanji Wasiu (Bravo 16) confirmed that the accident involved three vehicles – Mazda commercial bus (FKJ 88 XH), Tricycle (Keke Marwa KJA 369 QM) and a white Camry car (KJA 351 HG) on main carriage way at Iyana-Ipaja area of Lagos.

According to LASTMA’s preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of the white Camry car lost control due to over speeding and hit a commercial tricycle from the rear while the tricycle went off balance and obstructed another up coming fully loaded Mazda commercial bus going to Iyana-Ipaja.

“The rescued victims were immediately rushed to different Hospitals by their relatives but, unfortunately one of the rescued victim (male) reportedly died on the way to hospital.

The vehicles involved in the accident have been evacuated from the scene to allow free-flow of traffic and handed over to Police men from Gowon Estate Divisional Police Headquarters for further investigations.

Meanwhile, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Bolaji Oreagba stated that it was a ‘man-made’ accident which could have been prevented if the Camry didn’t over-sped.

He maintained that the government would continue to educate motorists on the danger inherent in over-speeding by both private, commercial and trucks drivers across the State.

My Oreagba, however, warned every motoring public to ensure that their vehicles are in good condition, particularly the brake before plying the roads.
