Mother of a student of the Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu, Lagos (LASPOTECH), Mrs. Folake Sokoya, allegedly manhandled by security guards of the school has faulted a statement released by the institution.
In a counter statement by Sokoya, the institution’s claim was described as falsehood.
“My attention has been drawn to the numerous falsehood contained in the several media publications, extracted from the press statement released by the management of Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu Campus and signed by the Public Relation officer of the institution on Monday, August 6,2018,” she said.
Stating further, Sokoya said, “It is not only disappointing, but disheartening to know that an institution of repute as LASPOTECH will engage itself in such libelous act and outright fabrications, with the sole aim of covering up for gross misconduct and unprofessional conduct of its security department.
“The institution’s security officials are notorious for maltreating several innocent citizens and there have been quite a number of complaints from students, lecturers and parents in this regard,” she submitted.
Faulting the institution’s claim further, Sokoya said, “Reading through the purported press release, I find it misleading and false as the narrative of the PRO does not depict the true account of what happened on that day.
“Firstly, the author of the said press release was never at the scene of the incident, therefore all the narratives were third hand information with lots of twist, colourations and fabrications.
“Secondly, at no occasion have I been contacted by the management of the institution to ask for my own side of the story despite the fact that I sustained several life threatening injuries and was bedridden for weeks with wounds yet to heal till date.
“It may interest the general public to know, that there are pictorial and video evidences on the true account of what transpired between both parties on the day of the incident.
“The pictures of how I was battered with my son is enough evidence that their publication is false and misleading. My son and I were not in an accident but were battered mercilessly by LASPOTECH guards,” she said.
As a Nigerian citizen, Sokoya has decided to seek legal redress.
“I have resulted to seeking legal redress in quest for justice and my lawyer has been consulted and briefed on the matter,” she decided.
