LASPOTECH Guards Batter Admission Seekers’ Mother Over Ear Ring

Security men at the Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH),Ikorodu, on Wednesday, brutalized the mother of an admission seeker into the school for interfering in their handling of her son wearing a ear ring to the school.

Mrs. Folake Sokoya,  who sustained injuries in many parts of the body from the blows dealt her by the security men,  had sent her son, Daniel, who missed the registration into the school because of a recent visit to the U.S., to accompany one of her “adopted sons,” Joshua, to meet with the Admission Officer, simply identified as Doctor Jaji, for information about Joshua’s admission when the incident happened.

She said she became worried when her son called that he was arrested and couldn’t be reached again on phone after she heard the sound of a slap, prompting her quick dash to the school.

“I frantically started calling him but nobody was picking so I called the admission officer who told me to be on my way while he tried to find out what was happening’,” said the mother.

She said before getting to the school one of the son’s course mates also called her that she saw the son at the security unit and was seriously been beaten by a man, making her more perplexed.

Sokoya said when she arrived the school and inquired about her son, one of the men, “instead of him to answer my question, pushed me to get out of his way and I fell backwards, hitting my head on the floor.”

The distraught mother said she held the man and insisted that the CSO must intervene in the matter as the men beat her all the more .

“That was how both men started beating me, giving me series of blows and one used his head to knock my glasses off my face, shattering the glasses in the process.

“The tricycle riders conveying students parked to save me but a third security officer threatened to shoot if they came near us and so they dragged me back into their office and continued beating me and I even noticed my son trying to save me but they also pounced on him,” she narrated.

The security men, she said, also took her to a room, overturned all the furniture there, took photographs and said she would have to explain why she came to cause the disruption in their office.

Sokoya  said the Chief Security Officer (CSO) told her: ” I heard noises and knew my men must be dealing with a student so I stepped out of my office to ask them what happened and they said he was wearing earring and I told them to just tell him to take it off and let him go.

“You have to write statement that you came to harass my men and tore their clothes because we ceased your son’s earring. If you refuse to cooperate, I will call the DPO to arrest you. See (showing me the pictures he asked them to take) I will say you are a cult member and lock you up.”

She said the CSO only let her go and warned her not to take any further action, after receiving a call from an Army Commander, informing him that he and his men were dealing with a journalist.

“He said he will arrest me and claim I came to attack them in their office if I take action. I went straight to report at the Sagamu Road Police Division before promptly going to the Ikorodu General Hospital for treatment,” she said.
