Spokesman of the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA), Mr. Kehinde Adebayo, has confirmed a building housing a school on its topmost floor collapsed today at Ita Faji, Lagos Island.
Adebayo who was mentioned by the Punch’s report today on the incident did not give casualty figure which some unauthorised sources have been reeling out.
The building collapsed at about 10am while pupils were taking their lectures.
An eye witness who wished to be anonymous said, “There was pandemonium at Ita Faji when we heard a building had collapsed.
“We heard it was a school and both parents and non parents ran to the scene because of the innocent children,”
Another eye witness said, ” A lot of these buildings are weak but the owners won’t own up and call the government to help demolish.”
The relevant authorities are yet to give any explanation on the possible cause of the collapse.
Observers have however started imagining the number of pupils likely to have been involved and reeling out unconfirmed figures.
Meanwhile, untold number of pupils and other persons may have been trapped in the rubbles.
