Lagos State Government Debunks Fake News On Monthly Environmental Sanitation

The Lagos State Government has denied reports that it has re-introduced monthly environmental sanitation, which was shared on social media.

The news claimed that the state would start restricting movements by July ending.

In a statement, Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, described the news as “fake” and the work of “mischief makers”.

He urged residents to disregard the news and go about their lawful activities without fear of movement restriction on the last Saturday of July.

Wahab explained that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had announced a weekly community-based sensitization and awareness exercise, which would involve all residents.

The exercise aims to promote a culture of cleanliness and encourage residents to take ownership of their environment.

The Commissioner emphasized that the Governor did not announce the commencement of monthly environmental sanitation or restriction of movement in July or any other month.

The Lagos State Government has urged residents to embrace the culture of cleanliness and take responsibility for their environment, rather than waiting for government directives.

In a related development, the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources has announced a weekly community-based sensitization and awareness exercise, which will begin immediately.

The exercise will involve state government officials, residents, and other stakeholders in cleaning and sensitizing the environment.

The move is part of the state government’s efforts to promote a clean and healthy environment, and encourage residents to take ownership of their surroundings.
