The Magistrate Court, Ebute Metta, Lagos has commenced hearing on the murder case involving a nurse, Folashade Idoko who allegedly stabbed her husband, Lawrence Idoko who later died of hemorrhage in Lagos recently. The Magistrate, Miss K. A. Ariyo on Thursday ordered the suspect to be remanded at the Kirikiri Prisons pending further investigations and advice from the Ministry of Justice.
“Having being through the file, the investigation from the IPO and statement from her counsel that she did not purposely kill her husband, I hereby send her back to prison till 30th October,” she said, adding that, “I need to get further advice from the Ministry of Justice.”
Counsel to the accused had on 26th September lost his plea to get bail for Folashade Idoko in court. The plea was turned down by the magistrate signifying the beginning of Folashade’s trial.
The IPO in charge of the case, Inspector Akpan Nseyo had told the court on 26th what he recovered from the crime scene. “There was a squabble between the husband and the wife and there was a young lady in the house as at the time. I recovered the knife and a towel used to tie the injury from the crime scene,” he said, adding that, the accused raised the alarm and the victim was rushed to the hospital where he later died due to loss of blood.”
The Idokos have had series of fights according to co-tenants of their 2, Ganiyu Akanni Close, Aiyetoro, Ijanikin, Lagos where Lawrence was stabbed and bleed profusely.
Landlord of the residence and Balogun of the area, Chief Gani Akanni told National Wire that, “There are seven days in a week, this couple would fight three of those seven days. I am a peaceful person and a community leader. People bring matter to me in the neighbourhood and I settle them. I don’t like noise but the deceased’s wife would always cause embarrassment in the compound.”
Mrs. Jovita Akinrun, a co-tenant of the Idokos also told National Wire on Monday 21st August that, “Yesterday evening around 12mid night I didn’t go to bed because I was waiting for my husband who went out. He came around midnight and I went to open the gate for him.
“That was when I heard someone groaning and calling ‘mummy Esther!’ I called my husband and we dragged him out. He was soaked in his own blood and looking at the wound and looking at his wife without uttering any word. I met the children also stained with blood.”
Domestic violence has claimed several lives in Nigeria in the past few years and living victims have always been encouraged to speak up and report such cases to the relevant authorities while they can still do so.
