Commuters plying the ever-busy Lagos-Ibadan expressway may have nothing to fear this festive season as the Federal Government on Monday has ordered the immediate suspension of construction works along the route.
According to the announcement, construction on the expressway resumes 2nd July, 2023.
The Federal Controller of Works, Lagos, Olukorede Kesha, in a release on Monday, said the announcement was due to the difficulties experienced by road users using the highway in recent times.
According to him, the suspension of work was to ease traffic and help travelers have free movement during the Eid-el-Kabir festival.
“The suspension is due to the recent heavy traffic flow being experienced on the Lagos-Shagamu route in the last couple of days, the inclement weather conditions, the forthcoming Eid-el-Kabir and the advice of the traffic management team deployed to manage traffic-related issues on the project,” he said.
Stating further, he said, “Construction activities on this ever-busy and very important highway will be suspended from Tuesday, June 27, to Sunday, July 2, 2023. This is to allow travellers easy passage during the Eid-el-Kabir holiday and minimise the discomfort of gridlock during this very important period.”
He however advised the road users to cooperate with the traffic management team deployed on the highway to ensure safe passage on the expressway.
