The Lagos State Government on Monday handed over keys to the first batch of beneficiaries in the Rent-To-Own scheme of the state, signaling ownership of various apartments in all the five estates already available for in programme.
The Commissioner for Housing in Lagos State, Gbolahan Lawal, while handing over keys to the beneficiaries numbering 100 in Alausa, Ikeja, reiterated that under the policy, all prospective home owners needed to do was to make a five per cent commitment fee, take possession and pay the remaining balance toward the ownership of the property over a period of 10 years.
“Today, it gives me great joy and a sense of fulfillment to inform you that the first batch of 100 Rent-To-Own allottees are to receive the keys to their various apartments in all the five estates already available for the Rent-To-Own programme,” he said.
Adding, he listed the first set of available estates presently being allocated to include: “Sir Michael Otedola Estate, Odoragunshin, Epe; Oba Adeboruwa Estate, Igbogbo, Ikorodu; Choice City, Agbowa; Hon. Olaitan Mustapha and Alhaja Adetoun Mustapha, Ojokoro. The delivery of 100 housing units per month will be a continuous exercise.”
He concluded by saying the rent to be paid by beneficiaries will be determined by the prevailing rent in each of the locations, while the mode of payment will be direct debit by the employer/banker to ensure ease of collection.
Some of the allottees include William Nse-Obong from Akwa-Ibom, who got a three-bedroom flat at Abraham Olaitan Estate and Akanbi Olatunde who was allotted an apartment at Sir Mike Otedola Estate in Epe. Other beneficiaries are Obayomi Amos, Bridget Otuene and Idowu Bamidele, among others.
