In what appears to be a major breakthrough in its quest to rid Katsina state of criminal gangs has paid off as the state police command has announced the arrest of a notorious kidnapper, identified as Amadu Yusuf, rescued 14 victims and a large number of rustled cows.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Gambo Isah in a statement on behalf of the Commissioner of police on Saturday said “in the early hours of today, about 01:00hrs, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Dutsinma, CSP Muhammad Makama, led “Operation Puff Adder” to Kwantawama village, Dutsinma LGA of Katsina state, to thwart hoodlums attack.”
In the process, the police team chased the bandits numbering about 40 on motorcycles, armed with AK 47 rifles, who earlier attacked a village and kidnapped 14 women including children and rustled large number of domestic animals into the fringes of Rugu forest and engaged them in a gun duel.
He explained that the team didn’t only succeeded at dislodging the bandits, but rescued all the kidnapped 14 women, 30 cows, 60 sheep and arrested one of the bandits who later identified himself as Amadu Yusuf, a 30-year-old from Tudu village, Dutsinma LGA of Katsina state.
SP Gambo reiterated that investigation was ongoing.
