The Deputy Governorship candidate of the People Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2015,general elections in Niger state, Hon. Isah Liman Kantigi has debunked the claim that N2 billion was traced to a company account Liman and companies linked to him in the United Bank for Africa (UBA).
In a Press statement issued and made available to Journalists over the weekend in Minna, the embattled politician cum-businessman stated that he was not aware of the said account that they claimed belonged to him as carried in social media and other media currently trending all over.
He stated further that, it was unfortunate that for over a week now some persons have decided to clandestinely use the media to malign (impeach) his character as a businessman and politician linking him to issues that are unfounded.
While acknowledging the fact that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission( EFCC) has the constitutional right to investigate anybody they suspect, he said it is not true that he has been evading the commission because according to him, “my lawyers are in touch with the EFCC and the commission is aware of this, so it is not true that i am evading the commission”.
“I want to categorically state that the claim that another N2 billion in a UBA account reportedly linked to me is untrue and figment of some peoples imagination who want to use the media to drag my name to the mud”.
“I was Chairman of my Local Government with outstanding performances and a Honourable Commissioner for seven months. How could I have siphoned such amount of money and pushed to companies as an individual from the government agency as claimed by the medias? ” he asked.
He added further that his lawyers will always be in touch with the commission and do the needful as required by law, saying that the way the issue of money linked to him is trending in the media showed that, it was being orchestrated by people who would want to spoil his name and associate his name with anything bad by all means.
“For God sake medias ought to confirm from the banks if truly my names are there as their customer? I am not a Director of such companies nor Share holder”, he maintained .
Kantigi thereby appealed to his teeming supporters to disregard all the fake news that they are trending about him in the media as they are false and unfounded and urge the media to cross check their facts very well before rushing to the public.
Meanwhile, findings in the said bank by our correspondent revealed that the embattled politician-cum businessman, has no such amount in UBA account as claimed by the reports trending in the media, a source in the bank stated that it was untrue what they attributed it to Hon. Isah Liman Kantigi.
“We urge the EFCC as a reputable organization to frown at medias using the Media to air untrue stories is very embarrassing”, the source stated .
