Former President Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, during week hosted the University of Port Harcourt alumni set of 1981.

Jonathan, an alumnus and a member of the pioneer graduate class of 1981 of the federal institution alongside other of his former school mates participated in reunion activities scheduled which took place from Thursday November 25 to Saturday 27, 2021 in Yenagoa the Bayelsa State capital.

A statement from the media office of Dr Goodluck Jonathan noted that activities lined up for the programme included a lecture, an excursion and a dinner and award night, respectively.
The statement adds that the reunion programme was part of activities of the alumni aimed at fostering bond among old classmates and a platform to deliberate on issues affecting their alma mater and give back to the school and society in general.

The statement indicated that Prof Ebiegberi Alagoa, pioneer Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt served as the guest lecturer for the conference scheduled for 10 am yesterday Saturday while Sen. Douye Diri, Governor of Bayelsa of State and an alumnus of the School was expected to serve as special guest of honour and King Alfred Diette- Spiff , former Governor of Old River State and Amanyanabo of Twon Brass is the Royal Father of the Day .

National Wire gathered that the University of Port Harcourt located in Rivers state, was established in 1975 as University College, but was upgraded to a full-fledged university in 1977. The school popularly called Uniport has over the years groomed many illustrious leaders and trailblazers of international repute and the reunion was meant to encourage young and upcoming generations on the power of education.

National Wire correspondent reports that the reunion also took participating members of the Class ’81 which is fondly referred to as UU ’81 to the National oil and gas park(NOGAP) project under execution by the Nigerian content Development and monitoring Board(NCDMB) at Emeyal one community of Ogbia council area of Bayelsa state as well as a visit to Oloibiri oil well one(where reports say oil was first struck in commercial quantity) at Otuogidi community in the Ogbia council area as well as visited the first Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt,Professor Ebiegberi Alagoa in his Nembe-Ogbolabiri country home and made a stop-over to the palace of one of their member,HRH king Amalate Johnnie Turner,Obanema(Paramount ruler of Opume Kingdom) where they had a warm time filled with entertainment.
