Intermittent Child Birth Results To Malnutrition — Experts .

Malnutrition has been described  as one of the several consequences affecting underaged children as a result of intermittent child birth by their parents, especially their mothers due to inability to adopt child spacing methods.

The  Officer In Charge of the Primary Health Care Facility in Tunga, Chanchaga Local Government of Niger state Mrs. Aisha Ibrahim statedd this durung an interactive session with the newsmen  on a field trip to the facility’s Family Planning unit to assess how Family Planning services were  run, the different methods available to clients, their preferred choices and most importantly, to know the number of people that visit the Unit to access the services on a daily basis.

National Wire observed that the trip by a select journalists was at the instance of “The Challenge Initiatives ( TCI) a Non Governmental Organization led by their Officials who were on 3- Days Training mission  for journalists in Niger State on Media involvement in reducing Maternal and Child mortality in Nigeria, with special reffernce to Niger state, in conjunction with the state government.
It was further learnt that the concern was to prevent Women and Children that were dying as a result of not taking up  family planning.

She explained further  that  when a nursing mother gets pregnant while she breastfeeds, the infant could be at risk of being malnurished because, stressing that the child may   be denied adequate milk when the pregnancy gets to a certain stage.

Aisha Ibrahim added that malnutrition also sets in due to financial challenges since there was a baby to be  taken care of and another one on the way amidst very limited income to cater for the family.

According to her, Family Planning was the solution to many of such maternal and child health related problems.

Interestingly, she pointed out that Nigerlites were gradually   becoming aware of the importance of Planning their families as more people come in to access the services.

In a related development,  a  Family Planning Provider and Midwife, Mrs.  Hindatu Nuhu, attached to  the Family Planning Unit, Niger state Primary Health Care facility at the Old Airport road, Minna  informed  journalists that Child Spacing make nursing mothers and their children healthier because they have ample time to nurse their babies and prepare physically and emotionally before another pregnancy.

Consequently, she said, what was more, the Family Planning Unit of the Health Care Centre,  was witnessing a tremendous rise of visits by women generally to access services.

She  added  that men also visit the the facility  to collect condoms individually in order to prevent unwanted pregnancy between them and their female partners  , while some men, usually come along with their wives for the services.
