The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has confirmed receipt of a letter from Aliko Dangote’s lawyers, withdrawing a petition against Farouk Ahmed, the former Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).
The petition, submitted on December 16, 2025, accused Ahmed of corruption and financial impropriety, including spending over $7 million on his children’s education in Switzerland without evidence of lawful income.
Despite the withdrawal, the ICPC has stated that it will continue its investigation into Ahmed’s activities, citing its statutory mandate to probe corruption allegations and promote transparency and accountability in the public sector. The Commission noted that investigations have already commenced and are ongoing, and another law enforcement agency has taken over part of the case.
Allegations against Ahmed:
Dangote accused Ahmed of corruption, abuse of office, and economic sabotage, alleging that he spent over $7 million on his children’s education in Switzerland without lawful income.
ICPC’s stance:
The Commission has asserted its commitment to investigating the allegations, despite Dangote’s withdrawal of the petition, citing its statutory mandate to fight corruption.
Ongoing investigation:
The ICPC has confirmed that investigations are already underway, and the Commission will continue to probe Ahmed’s activities in line with its mandate.
