How Delta Police Command Is Using “Stop And Search” To Nab Criminals

In a bid to intense its operation against the activities of criminal gangs operation in Delta State, a “stop and search” carried out on the 26th November, 2021 about 2315 hours, by the Anti-Crime patrol team attached to Ekpan Police Station has led to the arrest of two criminals while a third one escaped.

According to a statement by the Spokesperson, Delta State Command, DSP Bright Edafe in Asaba on Sunday said while on visibility patrol/stop and search duty at Effurun, the team flagged down a motorcycle with three occupants by Benjones in Hausa Market along NPA Expressway, Warri.

To their greatest surprise, when the suspects alighted from the motorcycle, one of them shot at the police but the team who were strategically positioned returned fire that caught up with one of the suspects named Yusuf Ibrahim, 27, and the bullet met him on his left foot and fell down.

Having arrested him, the rider of the motorcycle one Hashimu Garba, 30 years of Mami Market was equally arrested while the third suspect escaped.


Exhibit recovered included one cut-to-size locally made single barrel gun, three live cartridges and two expended cartridges. Manhunt for the fleeing suspect is ongoing.

Similarly, on the 19th November, 2021 about 1530hrs, Kwale Divisional Patrol team while on stop and search duty along Afieze street Kwale intercepted one Qlink motorcycle with Reg no: EHR 609 LU with two occupants namely Ohajiaka Sunday, 24 years old of Ogwu Ikpere Community of Ogbaru LGA in Anambra State and one Rukevwe Jagu, 24 years of same address but a native of Oriah in Abraka.

Upon searching the suspects, one locally made revolver pistol loaded with one live ammunition, 42 rounds of assorted live ammunition, several charms and the sum of N103,500 were recovered from them.

According to the Commissioner of Police, Delta State, CP Ari Muhammed Ali, Stop and Search is an important part of proactive policing hence they are taking the fight to the door steps of criminals, arrest and prosecute them even before they carry out their nefarious activities.

He added that the Command has intensified the fight against crime and criminality just as he assured Deltans that the Command would continue to sustain this tempo with a view to seeing that the state is safe for all.
