Golf: “A Strategic Game” – Admiral Wambai

…as FOC West tournament ends in Lagos

The game of golf has been described as a “strategic game” designed to bring out the best in golfers physical fitness, sharpen their relationships and enhence communication among participants in a relaxed environment.

The Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), West Naval Command, Vice Admiral Yakubu Wambai while declaring the 7th Edition of FOC, Western Naval Command, closed in Lagos, said no fewer that 100 people participated in the two-day tournament.

The Amateur/Pro Invitational Golf Tournament, which featured five categories including the Gross Category, Net Category, Ladies Category, Veteran Category and Senior Veteran Category was held between November 17 to November 19, 2022 at the Dolphin Golf Club, Navy Town, Ojo, Lagos.

Assuring of its continued support towards ensuring that the tournament is held annually, Wambai thanked the participants for their degree of involvement stressing that “concerted efforts were been made to ensure that the yearly grant given to the Dolphin Club by the Naval Headquarters is restored.

“We will also ensure to bring out a program that is deliberately designed to catch them young within the barracks community and environs to have more membership from the early ages.

“I celebrate with the winners and urge those that did not win to continue to work hard and improve their games in subsequent tournaments,” Admiral Wambai reiterated.

“I, therefore, urge all new converts and established members to cultivate the habit of regularly playing and leverage the opportunity that competitions such as this gives to perfect their skills,” the FOC said.

Also, Mr Kronakegha Uti, Captain of Dolphin Golf Club, said that he was impressed with the game of many of the golfers because a lot of them played lots of “under par”.

“The term “under par” describe a player’s score when they have taken fewer strokes than par up to a given point of the golf course.

Winners were given prizes ranging from sets of pots, electric cooker to television, fridge among other items.

Some of the winners included Taofeek Jibola, Boniface Edem, Edwin Samuel, Henry Achigbue, Samuel Wilfred, Obey George, Ada Martins, Kelechi Momoh and Rosita Anwengs.
