The Medical clinic, Bosso campus of the Federal University of Technology, Minna has been burnt down while other facilities of the Institution were also touched during students’ protest that erupted yesterday on the campus over the death of their colleagues.
National Wire learnt that the trouble began in the university, when the students discovered that one of them rushed to the clinic after slumping at a football pitch in the premises died before Medical personnel could reach him for treatment,
It was further learnt that the protesting students blamed the death of their colleague on the medical officer on duty at the clinic, whom they accused of refusing to attend to the victim while insisting on proper student identity card to identify the yet unidentified deceased male student.
Further checks revealed that the building hosting the consultancy department at the institution was also touched in the rampage during which several cars were vandalized.
National Wire however gathered that the institution has been closed down on the orders of the authorities for two weeks following the spontaneous students uprising against the death of their colleague .
A statement issued yesterday by the academic registrar, Dr. Shekardeen Yufus which was repeatedly broadcast on the Ultimate Fm, the school’s FM radio station , advised the students to vacate the school premises in Bosso and Gidan Kwanu till March 2, 2017.
The forced closure of the institution, it was learnt was to avert more destructions of properties and prevent the violent protest from escalation and spread to the main campus if the Institution in Gidan Kwanu, off Minna _ Bida road , as tension continue to mount among the students population on both campuses of the institution.
