Following the tragic crash early Thursday morning between a moving train and Lagos State Staff bus in Lagos, that claimed four lives, the Lagos State Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Babatunde Farinloye, has admonished motorists to adhere to safety rules guiding railway crossing.
The Commander, who has visited the scene of the crash at PWD railway crossing along Agege Motor Road, said that the bus was conveying 80 passengers as at time of the crash.
According to the FRSC Public Education Officer, Supreintendent Route Commander Olabisi Sonusi in a statement said the crash involved Lagos State Government Staff Marcopolo bus with registration number: 04A-48LA and a moving train on Thursday along Agege Motor Road corridor at 7.45 a.m.
According to her, the remaining occupants sustained varying degree of injuries and are receiving treatment at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, (LASUTH) Ikeja.
According to some witnesses it was learnt that while the bus was nearer to the PWD crossover line, he was warned to exercise patience and allow the train to pass, the driver insisted that he would have crossed before the train comes closer.
At that point, he pulled out and in the process, one of the back tyres got stocked on the rail before the moving train from Oshodi axis rammed into it, dragging the bus to a long distance before it halted.
However, Farinloye commiserated with the families of the dead and wished the injured quickest recovery.
He commended all first responders like FRSC, Nigeria Police, LASEMA, LASTMA for their prompt rescue of the victims and promised that the crash would be investigated.
Also, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Idowu Owohunwa, who was also there and addressed the newsmen alongside Heads of Agencies present at the crash scene confirmed the incident and admonished motorists to always give way to train at all railway level crossing.
Olohunwa said the injured were receiving treatment at LASUTH.
