Friday morning accident claims nursing mother, eight others in Ogun

Ten passengers have been killed in an accident around Shagamu, Ogun State Friday morning, Rhythms 93.7FM has announced in its 12noon news bulletin.

The unfortunate event occurred when a truck conveying granite swerved and fell on the bus in which the victims were traveling.

According to eye witness reports, the commercial bus stopped to enable a passenger, a student of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State ease herself while other passengers were waiting in the stationary bus.

The tragedy occurred around 10am on wet Friday as a truck conveying granite from Sango Ota to Ago-Iwoye swerved and fell on the stationary vehicle.

The victims include a nursing mother, her daughter and others. Five people however survived the accident.

The police in the area confirming the incident blamed recklessness on the part of the truck driver. Meanwhile, motorists have been advised to drive with caution due to the daily rainfall experienced in most part of the southern Nigeria.

Rescue efforts have evacuated the victims at the scene of the accident to avoid traffic congestion and other possible accidents.
