Four persons killed in road accident, flood in Niger

Three persons in a commercial Bus lost their lives in a fatal road traffic accident at a point around Sabon Daga village along Minna-Bida highway in Niger State in the early hours of Sunday, National Wire learnt yesterday in Minna, the state capital.
Another person also lost his life to flood following a heavy rainfall at Kuturko village around Fadipe community in Bosso local government area of the state the same day.
In the road traffic crash, an 18-seater commercial bus was said to have somersaulted at about 6.30 am, on Sunday killing the deceased, while Nine other passengers were said to sustained varying degrees of injuries.
According to the Image Maker of the State Police Command,, Mr. Bala Elkana, a Deputy Superintendent of Police(DSP) the driver of the commuter bus might have been trying to dodge a porthole on the road , when the vehicle veered off the road and somersaulted in the process, killing three passengers on the spot.
Elkana further disclosed that the police were still carrying out investigations on the immediate or remote cause of the fatal crash,with the view to find out if there was any fowl play.
He said the injured persons were recuperating at the General Hospital, Minna, while corpses of the three deceased passengers in the vehicle have also been deposited at the Mortuary section of the hospital.
Speaking further on the flood incident in a brief interview with our reporter in his office at the state Police Command Headquarters in Minna, Mr. Elkana noted that the Command got a distress call, alerting it of the development at about 12.45 am on the fateful Sunday morning.
“On getting to the scene, we discovered a Toyota Corolla car submerged in a shallow river due to heavy downpour.
The corpse of the owner, identified as Abubakar Mohammed of Kuturko village was recovered, while the vehicle has since been removed from the river,” he stated.
