Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari Dies in London

Nigeria is mourning the loss of one of its former leaders, Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday afternoon in a clinic in London.

The news was confirmed by his former aide, Bashir Ahmad, who shared the announcement on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). Ahmad wrote:

“The family of the former president has announced the passing on of the former president, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, this afternoon in a clinic in London.
May Allah accept him in Aljannatul Firdaus. Amin.”

Buhari served as Nigeria’s civilian president from 2015 to 2023, following an earlier tenure as the country’s military head of state between 1983 and 1985. His leadership was marked by a strong anti-corruption agenda, efforts to rebuild Nigeria’s infrastructure, and policies aimed at reviving the economy.

Details of his burial are expected to be released by the family in accordance with Islamic traditions.
