Former CDS, Gen Irabor, Pulls Out Of The Army

The immediate past Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Lucky Irabor has been officially pulled out of the Nigerian Army in line with military traditional after retirement.

The colourful ceremony took place on Friday at the Mogadishu Cantonment, Asokoro Abuja with both serving and retired service chiefs in attendance.

General Lucky Irabor was appointed as the CDS on the 26th January 2021 by President Buhari Muhammadu Buhari and was retired by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the 19th June, 2023.

Before his appointment as the CDS, General Irabor was once the Chief of Training and Operations, Defence headquarters, as well as Theatre Commander, Operation Lafiyia Dole in the North East as well as the Force Commander Multinational Joint Task Force in the Lake Chad Basin Area.

He was also the Commandant, Nigerian Army Training and Doctrine Command, Minna, Niger state.

He is an Alumnus of the Ghana Armed Forces Staff College Ghana, the National Defence College Bangladesh and Harvard Kennedy School of Government Executive Programme, USA.

As a trained Engineer, he attended Obafemi Awolowo University and holds Masters Degrees from the University of Ghana, Accra, and Bangladesh University of Professionals, Dhaka.

As the CDTOPs, he oversees training and operations in the Armed Forces of Nigeria under the direction of the Chief of Defence Staff.

During his time as the theatre commander, he was said to have recorded enviable feat as his operations focused on Counter-Terrorism/Counterinsurgency, blighting out terrorists and gained grounds against the insurgents.

As an award winner, he was decorated with multi military awards including ECOMOG and United Nations Awards and Medals.

He was born on October 5, 1965. He is from Ika South of Delta State and he is a member of regular course 34 of the Nigerian Defence Academy.
