Fire Disaster: 9 Brigade Commander Visits Olowu Spare Parts Market

Following the fire incident that gulted Olowu Spare parts market in Ikeja, destroying millions of goods, the Commander, 9 Brigade, Ikeja Cantonment, Brigadier General Isangubong Akpaumontia, on Thursday paid on the spot assessment on the market to sympathize with the victims.

The fire incident which occurred recently left about 13 shops, four warehouse and a restaurant razed down during the inferno.

Brig Gen Akpaumontia and his entourage who visited the area were marvelled at the extent of damage in the market.

It was gathered that goods burnt in most of the shops were air conditioners, vehicles and motorcycles’ parts worth millions of naira.

However, the fire was later put out by officials of the Lagos State Fire Service/NEMA officials before it could escalate to other shops.

It was also gathered that efforts are ongoing to unravel the cause of the fire incident.

Unfortunately, in the last one month, this incident makes it the third major inferno on markets in Lagos State hence this incident at Olowu market was viewed with serious security concerns.

It would be recalled that the first spareparts market at Akere in Ajegunle general area on 8th March 2023 went in flames while on the 29th March, 2023, Balogun market, Lagos Island was consumed by fire.

At the moment, calls are on security agencies like the Department of State Security (DSS) and the Intelligence arm of the Police in Lagos State to initiate discreet investigation into the reoccurring incidents with a view to nibbing it in the bud.

To this end, the Brigade would continue to liaise with the other security agencies to unravel the circumstances surrounding the fire.

This will help in combating the recurrence of incidences in Lagos and possibly arrest the culprits involved in the criminal act.
