President Muhammadu Buhari has sacked the suspended Secretary to the Federal Government (SFG), Babachir Lawal and the Director General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ambassador Ayodele Oke.
The President has immediately appointed Boss Mustapha as the replacement for the embattled SFG while no announcement is made yet about the replacement for Oke.
This was made known by the presidential media aides, Sheu Garba and Femi Adesina on their respective Twitter handles and that of the Presidency, as well as a press statement via Aso Rock Villa Facebook page on Monday afternoon.
Until his new appointment as the SFG, Mustapha was the Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA).
“President Muhammadu Buhari has studied the report of the panel headed by the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, which investigated allegations against the suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Babachir David Lawal, and the Director General, National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ambassador Ayo Oke,” the statement noted.
It stated further that the President “accepted the recommendation of the panel to terminate the appointment of Mr Lawal, and has appointed Mr Boss Mustapha as the new Secretary to the Government of the Federation. The appointment takes immediate effect.
“President Buhari also approved the recommendation to terminate the appointment of Ambassador Oke, and has further approved the setting up of a three-member panel to, among other things, look into the operational, technical and administrative structure of the Agency and make appropriate recommendations.”
The two ex government officials had been embroiled in corruption allegations, leading to public outcry for the government to kick them out of public offices they occupied.
