A former Chairman of the Lagos Branch of the National Union Of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Akanni Olorunwa, has been arrested for murder.
His arrest followed the apprehension of one Adeola Williams, alias Ade Lawyer, reputed to be one of the most notorious assassins in the Southwestern part of the country.
Nationalwire gathered that it was Ade Lawyer’s confessional statement to the police that led to the arrest of Olorunwa, having confessed to killing one Hamburger in the Oshodi area of Lagos.
Their arrest was sequel to the killing of Ade Lawyer’s last victim, One Ganiyu Ayinla, a personal assistant to One Azeez Adekunle Lawal on Lagos Island on January 23, 2018.
It was gathered that the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) launched a massive manhunt against the killers of Ganiyu Ayinla, leading the team to the enclave of Ade lawyer, a 39-year-old native Of Isasi Village, Ijebu Ode Local Government Area of Ogun State.
A directive from the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim K. Idris, led to the arrest of the professional assassin who had been on the most wanted list of the Nigeria Police for over five years.
Ade Lawyer was arrested in his newly rented house in Akure,Ondo State, by the IRT operatives and he has confessed to numerous assassinations in the Southwest Nigeria.
He confessed that Olorunwa hired him to assassinate One Azeez Adekunle Lawal for 1.5 million naira and was given a N500,000 advance payment, with N1 million to be paid after the assassination.
But he said they mistakenly assassinated the Personal Assistant to their target, Mr. Ganiyu Ayinla, while their actual target, Azeez Adekunle Lawal, who was in the same car with the late Ganiyu miraculously escaped with bullet wounds, makibg Olorunwa refuse to give him the balance of N1 million.
In annoyance, Ade Lawyer traced the driver of Mr. Olorunwa, confiscated his black Hyundai SUV from the driver and subsequently called Mr. Olorunwa that he would only release his Jeep after the payment of his balance.
He further confessed that Mr. Olurunwa had been calling him to be very careful as his members had been arrested.
He also mentioned many other victims he assassinated in the past which included Hamburger, a Union Chairman in Oshodi Lagos; Babajide Dosumu, Aka Mados, in Ebute Metta,Lagos; Salawe,in Ajah, Lagos and Ganiyu Asaro and four others in the Badore area of Lagos where he said he sprayed bullets on their car and killed the five occupants.
The 51-year-old Olorunwa indicted by the assassin was equally arrested in Ebute Metta, Lagos by the IRT Operatives.
A statement by the police Command said “serious efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing gang members.”
