Era Of Military Coup Is Over-Buhari

The era of military coups in Africa is gone, Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has declared in Abuja.

Buhari who is the Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS),
made the declaration as a result of the botched coup in Gabon yesterday.

He however urged military officers with political ambitions to resign or face their constitutional role.

Buhari also called for respect for constitutional provisions Gabon advising total respect for democratic rule.

In his reaction, Nigerian President said, “The military officers in Gabon should understand that the era of military coups and governments in Africa and indeed worldwide, is long gone.

“Democracy is supreme and the constitutional stipulations on the peaceful change of administration must be respected. That is the only way we can ensure peace and stability not only within the country but also in the region,” he said.

In a release issued by Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, the President appealed to the people of Gabon to remain on the side of peace, security, stability and democracy in their country.
